We promote the growth of the local community by providing businesses, startups, freelancers, and artists in the rapidly-expanding city of Miami with an open-source, collaborative community for the progression of all entrepreneurs, achievers, students, and passionate minds alike.

Outreach Associate


Roles:

  • Going to events both on and off campus (to meet potential affiliates & partners and building relationships)

  • Arranging meetings with potential affiliates & potential partners met at events, keeping records of relationship progression, and following up with said potential affiliates & potential partners

  • Cold emailing potential associates & affiliates, keeping records of relationship progression with cold contacts, and following up with said cold contacts

  • Creating a record of affiliates & sponsors for MIA, categorizing them, and sending them to different teams based on the type of collaboration we have with them

  • Building and keeping relations with important FIU administration that can blast our newsletters to students in their departments, along with keeping records of FIU administration contacts

  • Arranging introduction emails between all the confirmed FIU administration relations and the head of the marketing team

  • Using LinkedIn as a method to connect with founders of startups, people involved in the tech scene (engineers, developers, etc.), and creatives

  • Arranging introduction emails between notable contacts and the president

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Highly organized

  • Able to work in a team

Preferred:

  • Extraverted

 

Community/Event Manager


Roles:

  • Creating calendar of all off campus events going on in Miami’s startup, tech, and art scenes

  • Creating calendar of all events of our on campus partners and sharing calendar with the on-site marketing team

  • Establishing a strong MIA presence off campus by constantly engaging with well-known startup/tech/art communities (such as Refresh Miami, CIC, Iron Hack, etc.) via being highly active on all their slack channels and by personally going to their events

  • Establishing a strong MIA brand on campus by constantly engaging with our partners via going to their events and inviting them to all of our on and off campus events

  • Taking photos/videos at events and sending them to the social media manager

  • Sending all upcoming MIA-hosted events to marketing team as soon as the events are confirmed

  • Arranging events and inviting speakers for said events (both on and off campus)

  • Arranging speaking engagements for MIA to speak at events of our partners and affiliates

  • Arranging co-hosted events with both partners and affiliates

  • Arranging meetings or video calls with partners and affiliates once per month to go over the breakdown and logistics of upcoming co-hosted events for that month

  • Creating templates of event breakdown and logistics, based on all types of events

  • Creating records of all affiliates that we have events with, including the dates of panel discussions along with which speakers were involved, dates that MIA spoke along with the venues, all dates and venues of co-hosted events, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Able to complete tasks independently

  • Ample time to engage with community and personally attend events (needs about 10+ hours of time per week)

  • Passionate about building a network and getting directly involved in the startup, tech, and art scenes of Miami

 

Community/Event Associate


Roles:

  • Establishing a strong MIA presence off campus by constantly engaging with well-known startup/tech/art communities such as Refresh Miami, CIC, Iron Hack, etc. via being highly active on all their slack channels and by personally going to their events

Account Manager


Roles:

  • Work closely with Human Resources director with analyzing intern application data and pre-screening/pre-qualifying applicants for our affiliates

  • Responsible for a selection of internship cycles / intern pools and making sure all necessary paper work has been completed by the hired interns and employer prior to internship start date

  • Assist HR director with creating an effective training curriculum in order to provide the best training resources for our interns

  • Follow up with assigned cycle employers throughout the intern selection and training process to update them on our progress and create a strong client relationship in order to ensure good standing with MIA (using contact information posted on our MIA Airtable records)

  • Checking in with interns and our affiliated throughout the internship term. Must provide both parties with mid-internship and post internship surveys in order to get valuable feedback

  • Assist with creating and sending survey emails to all MIA members once per month for feedback on MIA and to get ideas for what they like most, what they would like to see more of etc

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Can work both independently and with a team

 

PR Team


Roles (PR Manager):

  • Writing press releases that go on our blog (and to be sent to third party news sources and/or media outlets)

  • Building database of third party media outlets (organized by audience type, size of reach, etc.) and maintaining relationships with said media outlets

  • Keeping records of which stories were sent to which media outlets, dates of when they were sent, and other in-house PR metrics

  • Assist content writers in blog posts (if needed)

  • Having upcoming MIA events promoted on our blog

Roles (Content Writers):

  • Creating & maintaining the MIA blog

  • Writing about local news and updates from third parties (Miami startup/tech/art news)

  • Assisting marketing team in physical marketing content (flyers/posters)

  • Assist in writing/editing the MIA newsletters

Qualifications (for both):

Required:

  • Flexible hours

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Advanced writing & grammar skills

  • Able to work independently

  • Must keep up with local Miami startup/tech/art news

Preferred:

  • Journalism or English majors

  • Writing samples

 

Graphic Designer


Roles:

  • Designing MIA flyers, posters, and banners

  • Creating designs to fit physical proportions

  • Designing MIA newsletters

  • Assure proper usage of designs (avoid stretching the aspect ratio of flyers and banners, assure that the proper image file formats are being used accordingly, etc.)

  • Working with marketing team

Qualifications:

  • Able to explain design terminology and issues faced in creating designs to the rest of the marketing team and to co-founders

  • Tech savvy

  • Experience in Photoshop

  • Able to work in a team

  • Able to work remotely

  • Flexible times throughout the week

  • Portfolio

 

Marketing Associate


Roles:

  • Tabling (must communicate with GC event planning)

  • Presenting the MIA vision to students

  • Public speaking and interpersonal communication

  • Handing out flyers at strategic locations

  • Attending & participating in on campus events (career fairs, professional development workshops, etc.) for the purpose of marketing MIA via tabling, speaking at events, and more

  • Knowledge of all on campus events (including events at FIU Miami Beach Urban Studios, FIU Downtown on Brickell, FIU Architecture & The Arts, and the FIU Wolfsonian Museum)

  • Using Snapchat, Instagram stories, and Instagram Live at events and behind the scenes footage (during meetings, events, etc.)

  • Take pictures and videos (to upload to Google Drive)

  • Sending our newsletters to FIU administration contacts to have them blast it to different departments

Qualifications:

  • Very social

  • Able to communicate effectively

  • Public speaking skills

  • Ample time to attend events

  • Able to work in a team
